The Rotary Club of Singapore orchestrated a heartfelt Deepavali celebration for 30 elderly residents of the Sree Narayana Mission Nursing Home, illuminating their lives with joy and cultural exploration. The beneficiaries, aged between 80s and 90s, were treated to a day filled with festive delights and cultural immersion.

Commencing with a sumptuous lunch at Apolo’s Food Village, the seniors relished the flavors while engaging in conversations with the volunteers, fostering connections and shared moments. The subsequent walk through the vibrant Deepavali market in Little India adorned with radiant decorations sparked delight among the seniors, adding a touch of festive splendor to their day.

The pinnacle of the event was the guided tour of the Indian Heritage Centre, where the seniors delved into the rich history of Indian and South Asian communities in Southeast Asia. Viewing captivating exhibits and a historical video, they were enriched by the cultural tapestry of the region.

The culmination was marked by the seniors receiving gift hampers containing traditional treats like kaju barfi and samosas, alongside scented diyas, LED candles, and a wall decoration. Their joy was palpable, evidenced by their laughter and even a spontaneous burst of song from one of them.

Facilitated by volunteers from the Rotary Club of Singapore, Interactors, and Rotaractors, the day was not just about activities but about sharing stories, jokes, and fostering a sense of community. The group photo at the end encapsulated the warmth and connection shared, leaving indelible memories and radiant smiles on the faces of the elderly participants. This heartwarming initiative stands as a testament to the power of community and the beauty of cultural celebration in uniting and uplifting lives.
