The Rotary Club of Singapore made history today as we not only looked but heard beyond ourselves! To commemorate World Hearing Day, more than 70 Rotarians and spouses (including online live on Zoom) experienced firsthand how it felt to be in an environment where one cannot hear clearly. Our Community Service Committee, in collaboration with the Canossian School, organised the unprecedented and unique ‘Dine in Silence’ event. During our weekly Club meeting, we could talk all we wanted (nobody did) but we could hardly hear (or be heard) because we were all wearing earplugs and mufflers with white noise streamed in the background! Audiologists Mr Aaron Quek and Ms Tang Ying Leng shared with us the struggles and challenges faced by a hearing-impaired person. Tonight was undoubtedly one of the most meaningful Rotary meetings ever!
